The Moon Grass, an original children's play by the China National Theater for Children, is being staged from September 15 to 24 in Beijing.
First performed in 1993, the play, written by Chinese scriptwriter Xu Baoqi, tells the story of a greedy brother and his honest sister, who both try to find the magical moon grass but each end up with different results.
According to the play's director Zhong Hao, a former actor of the China National Theater for Children, the play is one of the Theater's most classic pieces and the re-arrangement of the play is based on the original script, while adding some new, contemporary elements.
Composer Zou Ye, who wrote the music for the original 1993 version, has composed over 30 original songs for the play, borrowing elements from folk music associated with Shandong province to compliment the fact that the story is set around Laoshan Mountain.
