Coworking and community service provider WeWork recently unveiled its shared office space at Beijing Fun, a landmark complex in the capital's historic Qianmen district.

Located in a former gold shop featuring elegant stone carvings that was built more than 120 years ago, it's one of the best-preserved historical buildings in the area.

With its proximity to hutong, art studios and stores, it's only about 10 minutes' walk to Tian'anmen Square, the National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Temple of Heaven.

The office space combines historic and modern aesthetics with the latest technology.

The four-floor space boasts 268 seats for its members to enjoy the cozy office atmosphere, a variety of facilities, tasteful interior design and cartoon murals in its stairwells.

Over 70 percent of the furniture in the facility is made in China and many of the wooden pieces are peach-colored — a sign of good fortune, according to Chinese tradition.

The members have access to devices such as height-adjustable desks that move with the push of a button. They can also make phone calls at individual booths and play video games to relax after work.

Headquartered in New York, WeWork has more than 20,000 members, including those from its enterprise clients, at its 40 locations across China. It plans expanding its service from three to six Chinese cities this year.
