Modern Drama Troupe of Gansu Province

The Modern Drama Troupe of Gansu Province was set up in August 1953. Its original name was Qing Huan Rural Drama School, which was founded in 1937.

Over the past 46 years, the Modern Drama Troupe has performed more than one hundred programs and created a series of popular modern dramas, films and TV series. The modern drama On the Kanbur Grasslands won the first prize in directing and the second prize in artistic creation in the First National Modern Drama gala performance; Remote Youth won the excellent play award issued by the Ministry of Culture; Xi'an Incident won the first prize of creation and the second prize of performance at the performances for the Thirtieth Anniversary of the People's Republic of China; The White Rain won the golden award for creation subject on the ethnic minorities in 1983; Rewi Alley in Shandan won the first prize of the Gansu Provincial Opera Creation Award in 1985, and the prize of the First Gansu Province Dunhuang Literature and Art; Only One Earth (the present name: Aurora) won the prize of the First Gansu province Dunhuang Literature Award and Art Award; Dark Fog won a prize of the First Gansu Province Dunhuang Literature Award; Bodhi on Horseback won the special prize of the special prize of  the new theatrical piece on the Eighth Wenhua Award issued by the Ministry of Culture and  the special prize of screenplay on the minority nationalities subject at the Eighth National Peacock Cup Award and won several prizes on the New Theatrical Piece Festival and the second prize of Second Dunhuang Literature Award as well.

The Troupe's leading artists are Kang Aishi, Chang Guishun, Qi Baoquan, Zhu Heng, Wang Jiang, Zhang Ming, Su Tingshi, Yang Fuyan and Ma Hongen.
