The China Peking Opera Theatre (CPOT, founded in 1955, is an art performing institution under the Ministry of Culture.

Duties and Tasks: By means of creation and practice, play the experimental and exemplary role in carrying on and developing the art of Peking Opera; spread traditional culture; and explore and research modern Peking Opera.

Establishment: Under CPOT there is No.1 Troupe, No.2 TFoupe, No.3 Troupe (Youths' Troupe), Wind and String Band, Artistic Creation Office, Artistic instruction Committee and Director's Office, the People's Theatre, the magazine ofPeking opera of China and Economic Development Department.

Major achievements: Since 1978,CPOT has created, renovated and sorted out a great number of traditional plays, many of them have won prizes in various theatrical festivals.
