Ninety-five players from 15 countries will gather in Shanghai to compete at the 6th Shanghai International Ballet Competition (SIBC) at Shanghai International Dance Center starting Aug 3.

The qualifying round of the competition kicked off in February when 120 contestants from across the globe submitted video clips of themselves dancing.

Of the 95 dancers selected for the competition, 40 of them come from foreign countries including Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Russia and the United States.

Founded in 1995, the SIBC has been held biennially in the city since 2016.

The finals of the SIBC will be held on Aug 11.
