The exhibition A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains opened at the China Cultural Center in Seoul on June 8 as part of the Chinese Culture and Tourism Ministry's international campaign to showcase the Palace Museum's creative inheritance of cultural relics.

Centered around the painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains, the exhibition features more than 130 creative designs derived from the masterpiece by Song Dynasty (960-1279) painter Wang Ximeng, one of the most important figures in China's fine art history. Items on show include porcelain, paintings and calligraphy, jewelry, clothes and accessories as well as stationery.

Zhang Zhonghua, cultural councilor of the Chinese embassy in Seoul and head of the Chinese culture center, said she hopes the exhibition will help enrich channels of cultural communication between the two countries and enhance cooperation for creative products in the cultural sector. 

Friday's opening was attended by more than 200 officials, curators and artists from both China and South Korea. Highlights included performances with traditional Chinese and South Korean instruments - guzheng, a Chinese zither-like instrument, and gayageum, a South Korean string instrument.

The exhibition runs until June 22.
