Following the recent release of Indian films Secret Superstar and Hindi Medium in China, superstar Akshay Kumar's rom-comedy Toilet: A Love Story may also be imported into the mainland.
The film, based on a true story, is about an Indian woman who files for divorce as the man fails to build a toilet for their home.
In the movie, women in the village have to get up as early as 4 am to defecate in the fields, but the rebellious protagonist refuses to join them.
Her "battle" for a toilet turns into a national campaign as women in the country seek proper sanitation.
The movie was shown in a Beijing cinema on April 21, as part of the quality films exhibition section of the 8th Beijing International Film Festival.
Director Shree Narayan Singh alongside producer Shital Bhatia joined the after-screening conversation with a Chinese audience.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Chinese companies which have acquired the film's distribution rights say that they are busy dealing with the import procedures and hope the movie can be released in the mainland in May.
