On Feb 18, the second Chinese New Year Temple Fair was held in the area where the Chinese Community Association is based in Caracas, Venezuela. The entire block was decorated with red lanterns and over 2,000 overseas Chinese in the country gathered to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
The event featured three major activities: a morning fair and Chinese food, a cultural exhibition and a New Year show.
At the morning fair where stands of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and sea food were set up, vendors and customers indulged in intense exchanges, creating a vibrant new year atmosphere. Meanwhile, chefs cooked Chinese delicacies like dumplings, stuffed buns and Nanjing salted duck at the morning fair.
The cultural exhibition included a picture exhibition themed after Happy Chinese New Year and a cultural exhibition of the Confucius Institute. Also, many cultural products such as Chinese calligraphy and tea utensils were sold at the exhibition.
The New Year show featured Chinese martial arts, lion dancing, and the performances staged by students from the Confucius Institute at the Bolivarian University of Venezuela and a school for local overseas Chinese children.
