The first meeting of the Canada-China Joint Committee on Culture was held in Ottawa, Canada, on Feb 1-2.
At the invitation of Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly, Chinese Cultural Minister Luo Shugang attended the meeting, along with a delegation of Chinese cultural institutions and enterprises.
The two sides participated in six activities, including a formal meeting between Chinese and Canadian cultural ministers and an exchange meeting between cultural institutions from the two countries.
Both ministers highly praised the establishment of the Canada-China Joint Committee on Culture. The committee is a major achievement of mutual exchanges in recent years. It is also an important milestone that marks the deepening of cultural relations between the two countries. The committee signifies that the cooperation between China and Canada has entered a new era, which will push the two sides to have more fruitful achievements.
The cultural ministries of the two countries issued the meeting minutes of the first meeting.
According to a series of agreements, 2018 was set as the Canada-China Year of Tourism. Minister Joly intends to lead Canada's first creative industries trade mission to China in the spring, which will provide more opportunities for mutual cooperation.
The Ministry of Culture of China will host the next meeting of the joint committee in 2020.
