The first Romanian Film Festival in China, organized by China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and The Romania National Film Center, opened Monday and will run to Nov 24 in Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an. Five Romanian films, Sieranevada, Beyond the Railway, Kyra Kyralina, In Paris only with the ID Cardand and Carmen, will be screened.

According to event organizers, the five films cover a wide range of themes and manifest the highest level of Romanian films in terms of production standards and artistic values. The film Sieranevada, whose name means "snow-covered mountain range in English", was shortlisted for the Palme D'Or at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

The event is based on the protocol signed in 2014 by Romania's National Film Center and China's State Administration of the Press, Publications, Radio, Film and Television, which aims to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the movie industry. A Chinese Film Festival was held in 2014 in Romania and five films, including CZ12, The Grandmaster, Beijing Love Story, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate and Full Circle were screened.
