The 34th World Congress of Art History will officially open at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on September 16, according to a news conference on Tuesday.
The meeting, known as the “Olympics” of art history, brings the world’s art historians together to exchange ideas, new methods, and innovations in all areas of this domain once in every four years.
The current session of the World Congress of Art History is jointly sponsored by International Committee of Historical Science, Central Academy of Fine Arts and Peking University.
Addressing the news conference, Fan Di'an, dean of Central Academy of Fine Arts, said that the gathering of hundreds of experts in art history is a great opportunity for the outside world to learn Chinese art and culture history.
The theme of the World Congress of Art History this year is "Terms" in art history. From there, a range of sessions will cover such topics as "Connecting Art Histories and World Art", "Media and Visuality", and "Commodity and Markets".
In total, 21 different topics will be discussed, and each session is going be co-chaired by an international scholar as well as a scholar based in China.
