ccccScottish actor David Tennant's Richard II was staged in Beijing on May 15, to mark the 400th anniversary of the British playwright William Shakespeare's death.

The play was performed as part of the Live from Stratford-upon-Avon, a collaborative project between the Royal Shakespeare Company and Picturehouse Entertainment since 2013.

King and Country: Shakespeare's Great Cycle of Kings, a complete cycle of Richard II, Henry IV Parts I & II and Henry V, directed by Gregory Doran, artistic director of Royal Shakespeare Company, are being screened in Beijing and Shanghai through October.

"We've seen great passion for Shakespeare's works from Chinese audiences and we would like to share more about the playwright's masterpieces in the future," Doran said.

The Royal Shakespeare Company will also work with Chinese dramatists on new translations to help Shakespeare's writings reach more Chinese.
