Sun Zhijun adapted Chinese writer Lao She (Shu Qingchun)'sThe Rickshaw Boy(《骆驼祥子》) into comic strips three times. His two comic strip adaptations of Jonathan Swift'sGulliver's Travels, published from the 1950s to 1960s, were also widely popular.
Sun, who was born in 1907, created three versions ofThe Rickshaw Boy, among which the first one, with 59 strips, serialized in The Dawn(《平明日报》) beginning in October 1948.
In 1995, Sun's first creations for the novel, 59 illustrations, were found.
