British Prime Minister David Cameron sent his wishes on Feb 5 to people celebrating the forthcoming Chinese New Year, while Chinese people and local organizations in Britain are preparing to welcome the Year of the Monkey.
"Here in Britain, we're not just marking the beginning of the Year of the Fire Monkey, but the growing relationship between Britain and China," Cameron said in a short video.
He said Chinese President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan's visit to Britain last year heralded a golden era in the two countries' relationship.
A huge range of agreements made during the state visit would bring China and Britain even closer together, and this year would be about delivering on those agreements, he said.
"As the lights go up, the parades begin, the music starts and families gather together, let's celebrate everything we are achieving together, and let me wish you the very best health and happiness for the New Year," he said.
As far as celebrations go, Chinese fantasy film The Monkey King 2 debuted at a cinema in central London Thursday night.
The story of The Monkey King 2, based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, not only showcases traditional Chinese culture, but also highlight the theme of the Year of the Monkey, said Ni Jian, minister at the Chinese Embassy in Britain.
The film is just one of various celebrations organized by the ministry of culture in Britain. Other events, including performances, seminars, and cultural exchange events will come to British museums and schools this year.
Performance teams from China will also bring in shows for Chinese people and Chinese culture enthusiasts in Britain.
One of the largest Spring Festival celebrations is expected to be held on Feb. 14 in the center of London. The number of participants in the performances and a large scale parade will break a new record, said the organizer, London Chinatown Chinese Association.
