A performance named "2016 Happy Chinese New Year" was staged in Harare in Zimbabwe on Jan 29-30. The Ministry of Culture of China and the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe organized the event. Hung Ping, Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ding Wei, Chinese vice-cultural minister, Cde Abedinico Ncube, Zimbabwe minister of the Ministry of Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage were present. About 1,000 officials and representatives from China and Zimbabwe attended the performance.
Huang Ping addressed the event, and in retrospect, expressed his feelings about Chinese New Year. He noted that the performance is the first major cultural event staged in Zimbabwe after the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in the country. 2016 is the Year of the Monkey, symbolizing a vigorous year. And the relations between the two nations will be blessed by this year and develop healthily.
Ncube welcomed the visitors of the Chinese government and the artists from Nanjing province in China.
Chinese artists performed dances, Chinese folk music, acrobatics and face changing of Sichuan opera. They also performed Shaina, a well-known song of Zimbabwe, which deeply moved the audiences.
Zimbabwe's artists gave a series of performances likewise. A famous singer composed a song Africa and China and performed it at the event.
