The National Museum of China launched its online store on Monday as a way to explore the fusion of the Internet with traditional museum and to better promote its creative cultural products.
Its online flagship store is based on Tianmao, a leading domestic shopping site under e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.
According to staff, the museum will design themed products by digging deep into the stories of its various exhibits and will put forward seasonal products during festivals and holidays.
The online museum store, will introduce a series of special cultural products themed on Spring Festival. These will include items such as porcelain tea sets, Spring Festival red envelopes and stationery.Promotional activities for a series of products themed "Hi, China's Remote Past", "The Smell of Bronze" and "Embrace Spring Festival by Talking and Singing" will be presented later.
A number of museums in China are determined to tap the online market potential of cultural products to inject vigor into the museums. As a pioneer, the Palace Museum in Beijing opened its online store in October 2010, and then launched a variety of creative products that have wowed the public and won numerous fans.
