"Lost in Hong Kong," a Chinese comedy, has raked in 1.33 billion yuan ($209.5 million) by Sunday, becoming the top-grossing 2D domestic film of all time on the Chinese mainland.
The film, released on Sept 25, is one sequel to "Lost in Thailand," the previous record holder since 2012 which pulled in 1.27 billion yuan.
"Lost in Hong Kong" follows a middle-aged man and his family's trip to Hong Kong, during which the man's secret plan to meet with his high school sweetheart turns into a tumultuous and thrilling adventure.
The film's director and actor Xu Zheng expressed his gratitude to viewers on Sunday in a microblogging posting, soliciting continuous support from domestic movie goers.
