Paper culture along the Silk Road, a video series exploring the origin and development of Chinese papermaking technology, will launch crowdfunding in Beijing from Aug 19 to Sept 17, 2015.
The project, initiated by Great Seed Inc, a start-up, will explore five locations of ancient papermaking in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hunan.
The video series focuses on the traditional craftsmanship of Chinese papermaking, the role and preservation of ancient papermaking technology in the digital age, as well as the innovation and artistry of hand-made paper.
It will consist of four episodes in Chinese and English and will be broadcast both in China and abroad through online and offline platforms.
To better carry on the ancient techniques of Chinese papermaking, Great Seed will recruit three designers devoted to innovative applications of handmade paper from across the world.
They will travel together with the Great Seed team on a journey of exploring the ancient paper culture of China. Great Seed aims to build an online community to preserve the world's intangible cultural heritage.
