The third annual coordination meeting of Category 2 Centers under the UNESCO opened on July 6 in Guiyang city, Guizhou province.
The three-day conference was attended by delegates from the UN agency and its regional centers in China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Bulgaria and Peru to explore international cooperation on information network and project planning of intangible cultural heritage.
Category 2 centers were established to engage in support of UNESCO's strategic program objectives via interregional cooperation. UNESCO has designated 98 international and regional institutes and centers as Category 2 under its auspices, and eight of them are specifically dedicated to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
