On May 29 local time, Vice Premier Liu Yandong, who was paying a visit to Indonesia, met with Mayor of Bandung Mochamad Ridwan Kamil, and accompanied by him, visited the site of the Bandung Conference in 1955 and the photo exhibition “Zhou Enlai and the Bandung Conference”.

The three-storied building in light yellow is simple, quaint and solemn, soundlessly telling the visitors the treasured history happened there. Liu Yandong listened carefully to the introduction, watched carefully the photos and communicated warmly with members of Indonesia-China Friendship Association.

Liu Yandong expressed that the Bandung Conference is of special significance to developing countries including China, and the Chinese people also hold special affections toward Bandung. Seeing along the way the precious photos displaying scenes of Bandung Conference in those days, I felt like going back to the old days across time and space. The Bandung Conference convened 60 years ago played an important role in establishing the new order of international relations, and the close cooperation between Chinese and Indonesian leaders at the Conference also became a much told tale in the history of China-Indonesia friendship. Standing in the Conference site, we deeply felt the sincere friendship between Chinese and Indonesian leaders then as well as their great spirit of unity and cooperation in striving for national independence of Asian and African countries and in safeguarding world peace. More and more Chinese tourists will visit this place, because it is a witness of China-Indonesia friendship as well as the best historical memory of the Bandung spirit.

Liu Yandong said that though 60 years have passed, the Bandung spirit centered on seeking peaceful co-existence as well as common ground while shelving differences still exhibits strong vitality. President Xi Jinping proposed to deepen Asia-Africa cooperation, expand South-South cooperation and advance South-North cooperation at the commemorative meeting for the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, which shows that the Chinese government will, on the basis of the Bandung spirit, push the establishment of a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation and actively build a common destiny community with its neighbors as well as a common destiny community for mankind. We are willing to work with Indonesia to continuously intensify unity and cooperation among vast developing countries, make greater contribution to the noble cause of world peace, development and prosperity, and inherit and carry forward the Bandung spirit with practical actions.

Mochamad Ridwan Kamil said that the Bandung people cherish the Bandung spirit and hope to carry it forward, and also hope Indonesia-China friendship last from generation to generation. The philosophic thinking and diplomatic talents of then Premier Zhou Enlai were admirable, and Bandung is actively planning to build a Zhou Enlai Theme Park in the Asia-Africa Park soon to be constructed, so as to commemorate his vital contribution to the Bandung Conference.

Liu Yandong and Mochamad Ridwan Kamil also exchanged views on enhancing China-Indonesia local cooperation, and pushing cooperation between China and Bandung in such areas as high-speed rail, economy, trade, culture, education and tourism.
