Suzhou Steles Museum

The Suzhou Steles Museum is a specialized museum in China. Located inside the Confucian Temple at Renmin Road of Suzhou City in Jiangsu Province, the museum was opened to the public on July 10, 1985.

The museum boasts over 1,000 steles, of which four map steles of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) are the most famous, including the stele of the Pingjiang Map, the stele of the Astronomical Map, the stele of the Geographical Map and the stele of Song Emperor Shaoyuan.

Besides, there are other stele inscriptions depicting the sprout of commerce and agriculture in the area of the late Ming & Qing dynasties (1368-1911). The museum is a research center of stele materials in South China.

In the Dacheng Hall of the museum, there is an exhibition of Suzhou Steles and Arts, divided in four parts of celebrities, places of interest, pictures and calligraphic works. The Minglun Hall displays the life story of Fan Zhongyan, a renowned litterateur of the Song Dynasty.
