Readers may find that the world depicted in Opening Belle, written by former New York trader Maureen Sherry, familiar: It is full of work stress, big money, raising children and women's power equations in relation to their male coworkers. In the novel's Chinese version, released by Chongqing Publishing House, Sherry tells us about a seemingly successful Wall Street star, Isabelle, who's in her 30s and appears to have it all: Upper West Side New York apartment, three healthy children, a handsome husband, and a high-powered job, but what she actually faces every day is harassment, and working conditions that need to be improved. Isabelle knows that things must be changed, and the 2008 financial crisis has just hit. A movie based on the novel is in the making.
