Fans of Western musicals must have heard of the musical, Wicked. As one of the most successful and award-winning musicals on Broadway and in the West End, Wicked has been called "Broadway Biggest Blockbuster" by the New York Times and "One of the Greatest Musicals of Our Time" by the Daily Mail.
Beijing audiences can have the chance to see the show at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center May 20-June 11.
So far, Wicked has been staged in 14 countries, attracting more than 50 million viewers worldwide.
The musical is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. And Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba and Galinda, who struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace.
"It is a story of growth, love and friendship. And all the beautiful things can be found from the musical," Stephen Schwartz, director of the producing team. said during an interview.
To meet the ever growing demand from Chinese musical-lovers, the Wicked Musical China Tour is ready to give a wickedly good show in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou next year.
The first round of tickets for the Beijing run sold out quickly when promoter Juooo.com released them for sale. A second chance to get a ticket is coming Friday, when tickets go on sale at 10 am on Jucoo.com.
