In recent days, cast of Singapore teenagers broadcasting performing group hosted special program Xiang Sheng in Tea house. During the program, audience will be engaged in real atmosphere of tea house. Actors will play the role of waiters for added authenticity.

Yexian Ma, the chief creative director of Singapore teenagers broadcasting performing group, said Small tea house in the form of Xiang Sheng (cross talk) with the combination of stage design and lights first staged in 2015 was well-received by audience. To learn about characters, the director has carried out some research about tea culture, including about teapots and how to make and drink tea.

Ma said modern teenagers are not that familiar with tea culture and it’s necessary to continue efforts to publicize Xiang Sheng and tea culture. “We started and produced Xiang Sheng in tea house in 2017 in the hope to create an environment for audience to drink tea while watching the performance. This year we directly arranged playing site in Yuemian art center as a tea house. Since last month, it has been performed at least 20 times, with each show warmly welcomed.”

It is learned that the third series of Xiang Sheng in tea house has started and seven performances of Xiang Sheng will be performed. They are adapted or written by local producers.

Ma said she resolved to train actors perform traditional Xiang Sheng because it is a good practice for actors. “We do not totally act as the original scripts, but make some changes in the phrases and the parts which may make the audience laugh. If out actors can comprehend, our audience can as well.”

The actors, aged 9 to 18, are mainly from teenagers broadcasting performing group. Every one of them is trained in strict pronunciation and creative drama. They are rich in performing experience though they are young. Most of these actors have performed Xiang Sheng in the hometown of it, Tianjin, to the teenagers from all over the world.

"More importantly, they become more skillful and confident, and interests also grow day by day as they practiced many times in the whole year."
