Malaysia-Chinese youth embark on discovering their roots

The opening ceremony takes place in Henan.

The opening ceremony of “Roots Finding” winter camp for Malaysian youth in Henan was held on December 11. The event was jointly hosted by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Henan Federation of Overseas Chinese and Henan Yacheng Culture Co Ltd. Malaysian teenagers began their 10-day journey from Zhengzhou city. 

Green mountains and beautiful rivers are hallmarks of Zhengzhou, a city with abundant culture. And “Roots Finding” winter camp is in Henan province, making it possible for Malaysian youths gain more understanding of Henan province. This journey will help overseas Chinese teenagers enhance their recognition of Chinese culture and deepen their patriotism.

Zheng Yuanpeng, the vice-chairman of Henan Federation of Overseas Chinese, said the history of Henan is every bit as long as the history of China. As the birthplace of Chinese nation and Huaxia civilization, central plains experienced the ancient and abundant traditional Chinese culture. It was, it is and it will always be the main root and affectionate ties of all Chinese living here or abroad. In this camp, teenagers hope to learn more about the fine tradition inherited from previous generations and the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation, at the same time, try to be a mediator between China and Malaysia.

This journey will take campers to Xinzheng to site of chariot and horse hole in Zheng Kingdom (Period of Warring States). Renowned enterprise specializing in the plant and sales of jujubes will introduce them to the revitalization of national enterprises. In ancient capital Luoyang, they will visit the Longmen Grottoes, and visit the birthplace of Shaolin Kung-Fu in Dengfeng. They will have opportunity to experience kung fu with Shaolin monks. And they will learn Confucianism in the Chongyang College, the oldest and most influential one in China. And Yellow River and museum, geopark of Yellow River will give a general introduction for campers about the Yellow river.

During the journey teenagers will experience the charm and rich history of China. The “roots finding” journey will help Malaysian-Chinese teenagers gain more sense of belonging and recognition of the Chinese nation.
