The 906 Hotel Group Cup Children’s Invitational Tournament was recently organized by Weiqi GO Association. Young players from Weiqi GO as well as Haitan Go Institute of Pingtan、Chufeng Go Institute of Zhongshan gathered together at the hotel and enjoyed the game. The team from Pingtan swept a number of prizes and was awarded WeiQi cultural exchange ambassador between Malaysia and China.

Though in a foreign country, the 27 young players from Pingtan quickly adapted. They showed a high level of competiveness and great sportsmanship.

After five intense competitions a day, Fang Yuchen, a student from Pingtan Chengnan Middle School, won the champion of the group.

You Yuchen, a student from Experimental Primary School, won the third spot. Fang, 12, has been learning Weiqi for six years. He is now level-four amateur player. “It was a little different from previous games, because we are in Malaysia, and I am particularly proud of getting the first place in the game,” Fang said. And the result of the game was also a great encouragement to his chess skill.

During the game, young players exchanged distinctive regional gifts with each other which strengthened their friendships and closeness.

“I’m very excited that they made it. That, of course, cannot be separated from their hard training,” Zhou Wenfeng, secretary general of Pingtan WeiQi Association. He said the game can not only help children broaden their horizons, but improve themselves, so as to make WeiQi more popular among people. And they plan to invite Malaysia, Taiwan and Pingtan to participate an invitational tournament in this winter or the summer of the next year.
