Chucai Cup writing contest attracts 30 Singaporean schools
On April 7, the OCT Cup’s 34th Wuhan International Chucai Writing Contest (Singapore) opened at Dunman High School.
The event serves as another platform for local writing aficionados to compare notes since the Chucai Cup Writing Contest was introduced to Singapore at the start of the 21st century.
Hosted by the Chucai Cup Writing Contest committee, this year’s event attracted participants of different cultural backgrounds. Apart from local overseas Chinese students, Chinese and Malayan Singaporean students accounted for more than half of all participants.
This shows the local government is giving more priority to cultural exchanges with China and the Chucai Cup is serving as an important platform.
Initiated by alumni from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hubei Association Singapore has become a major force in promoting the Chucai Cup in the country. Furthermore, the association, with a membership of over 2,500, is also the organizer of the 34th Chucai Cup Writing Contest in Singapore for the first time.
In addition to helping facilitate cultural and educational exchanges between students in Hubei province and Singapore, the association’s efforts can also boost trade between the two regions.
Singapore’s mainstream newspaper United Morning Paper has noticed the great momentum of the Chucai Cup Writing Contest in Singapore and gave special coverage of the contest on March 26. Furthermore, the local Chinese-language magazine Fortune Times also provided favorable publicity for the event.
While 21 prominent local schools participated in the contest last year, the event attracted participants from 30 schools this year.
