Tai'an

Covering an area of 7,762 square kilometers, Tai'an is conveniently located in the middle of Shandong province, bordering Ji'nan – the capital city of the province – Qufu and Zibo.

The city is named after Mount Taishan and an idiom "Guo Tai Min An", a Chinese proverb meaning, "The country is prosperous and its civilians live in peace."

It consists of two districts (Taishan district and Daiyue district), two county-level cities (Xintai city and Feicheng city) and two counties (Ningyang county and Dongping county), having a population of 5.5 million people.

In the Neolithic era, the area of present day Tai'an was home to the Dawenkou culture. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.) and the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.), the region belonged to the states of Qi and Lu.
