Carving of Chinese pistache
Carving of Chinese pistache is unique to Qufu and was invented over a thousand years ago. The best example is the statues of Confucius and his wife displayed in the Mansion of Confucius.
Chinese pistache is hardy and can withstand harsh conditions and poor quality soils. It is noted for its firm and flexible woodiness. The wood is used for the production of furniture and yields a yellow dye.
The main products are walking sticks and Ruyi, a traditional Chinese handicraft which appeared as early as in the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).
