By Air

International and Domestic Flights

There are more than 150 domestic and international lines connecting Wuhan with over 60 metropolises inside China and abroad. Currently, Wuhan has five direct international lines to Osaka, Fukuoka, Seoul, Bangkok, and Singapore. Another line sponsored by China Southern Airlines is from Wuhan to Guangzhou and on to Paris.

Airport

A 20-kilometer speedway drive from the Tianhe International Airport (WUH) to the city center takes only 20 minutes. Airport shuttle buses leave for the city following flight arrivals. From the airport to Hankou, the bus will charge 15 yuan per person, 20 for Hanyang, and 30 for Wuchang; a taxi drive to the city area is about 80-120 yuan.

By Train

High Speed Train in Wuhan Railway Station

As a transportation hub in central China, Wuhan has three main railway lines: Jingguang (Beijing-Guangzhou) Railway, Handan Railway (Hankou-Danjiangkou-Chongqing-Chengdu) and Wujiu Railway (Wuchang-Jiujiang-Shanghai).

Train travel options are available between more than 20 major cities and Wuhan, including Beiing, Zhengzhou, Tianjin, Luoyang, Chongqing, Xi'an, Guangzhou and Nanchang. Trains from Wuhan to other cities in Hubei Province are available daily. The high speed railway connecting Wuhan and Guangzhou make Wuhan a more widely recognized transportation hub. It shortens the distance between Wuhan and Guangzhou from 11 hours to less than 3 hours (only 2 hours from Changsha to Guangzhou) with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The speed train number starts with the letter 'G'. There are 26 pairs (30 pairs during the Spring Festival) of trains daily that shuttle between Wuhan and Guangzhou. At present, as many as 40 trains are available everyday from Wuhan Railway Station to Guangzhou North Railway Station.

By Water

As one of the ports of call on the Yangtze River, Wuhan welcomes cruise travelers to the city; ferries are available to Chongqing, Shanghai, and other riverside cities. Dozens of cruise services in Wuhan offer deluxe cruises to the famous Three Gorges. The Passenger Port is located on the western bank of the Yangtze River, at the right end of the famous Jianghan Road.

By Long-Distance Bus

With the rapid development of road construction, China's highway mileage is second in the world with a total of over 30,000 kilometers (1864 miles). Overland buses are the most important means of transport in many parts of China. By 1999, over 1.35 million km (840,000 miles) of highway had been put into use. Compared to air and trains, buses are the cheapest means of transport.

Travel to other cities from Wuhan

The national and provincial expressways and highways in Hubei Province connect Wuhan with most provinces and cities in Central and Southern China. Travel from Shanghai to Wuhan by train is 1,200 kilometers (746 miles) and will take about 18 hours while the highway travel is 950 kilometers (590 miles), about 12 hours. The Beijing - Zhujiang Expressway enables travelers to take a 1,300-km (808 miles) drive direct to Wuhan from China's capital city.
