Mount Qingcheng is the birthplace of Taoism, an indigenous traditional religion of China. It was named a World Heritage Site because of its long history and cultural associations.
It will be the first time the festival is held following the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan in 2008. Alongside Taoist exhibits will be displays of reconstruction work.
Officials have been praised for their post-earthquake work, which rapidly restored the tourist industry in the ancient region.
The number of tourists visiting Chengdu climbed 30.8 percent to 6.34 million, bringing in revenue of 2.58 billion yuan in the first seven months of this year, an increase of 21.9 percent year-on-year.
