Learn meditation techniques in Chengdu

Many foreigners in Chengdu find it difficult to have a place to exercise meditation, so some of them are taking the matter on their own hands and have started a meditation club, where all are welcome to practice together in a warm and friendly environment. The founders are two Americans, Jay and Bob, who are teachers of Southwest Jiaotong University and Sichuan University. Jay has exercised meditation for 30 years, and he thinks that meditation can make people more peaceful and relaxed.

The basic methods of practice are sound and scientific. It was believed that if the mind could stay in a state where it was focused on one point without giving rise to other thoughts it could create boundless wisdom over time and will remain in a state of internal bliss. On the other hand if the mind is scattered and undisciplined it will give rise to endless ignorance and limitless suffer which goes along with it. “Thinking nothing is impossible, but try to keep calm.” This is Bob’s experience.

The ideology is based on the here and now, so as soon as one starts the practice one reaps the benefits immediately. Even though the benefits are usually very small at the beginning, they grow with the stability of the practice. Some of the benefits are as follows:

1. One's spiritual development grows by leaps and bounds;

2. One feels more relaxed, thus one's health is greatly benefited and it helps cure and heal the body;

3. With the concentration and wisdom developed through meditation one will be more successful in whatever one wishes to do.

The Chengdu Meditation Club (CMC) plans to start regular weekly group sittings for the foreign community but the local Chinese who have basic English language ability are most welcome to join in.

The sitting group is open to both beginners as well as advanced practitioners, so beginners just come a half hour early to receive the basic method of practice and those who have already been using meditation for some time will just continue using their normal method as long as it is silent and sitting upright on the floor. There will be a group discussion on the method of practice, problems encountered and philosophy of meditation after each sitting.

Best of all it is 100% free of charge.
