Inspired by Li Po's Poem, by Huang Yongyu [Photo/ english.cguardian.com]

A Farewell to Meng Haoran Leaving for Guangling, another well-known poem by Li Po, expressed the author’s deep feeling for his leaving friend. The content is ‘故人西辞黄鹤楼,烟花三月下扬州。孤帆远影碧空尽,唯见长江天际流’, which means, ‘My friend has left the west where the Yellow Crane towers; For River Town green with willows and red with flowers. His lessening sail is lost in the boundless blue sky; Where I see but the endless River rolling by.’ (Poem translated by Xu Yanchong)

The painter Huang Yongyu is known for his woodblock prints, ink paintings and literary works. He painted Li Po’s poem and this painting sold for 368,000 yuan at the China Guardian 2014 Autumn Auctions.
