The first "Chinese Culture Malay Tour" culture camp was successfully held at a primary school in Negeri Pahang from November 29 to 30, held by the China Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The camp attracted over 200 students and teachers from Baden-Weli Chinese Primary School in Negeri Pahang to participate. The event was supported by the Pahang Education Department, the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia. The two-day cultural camp provided students with Chinese cultural experience workshops including Chinese knots, Chinese calligraphy, ink painting, dyeing and so on, as well as lectures on Chinese characters and children's drama performances. The event also coincided with the Malaysian Children's Day and the organizers presented the students with special Children's Day gifts and performances.

Some of the leaders, important guests and their families attended the opening ceremony, including Soong Xiaomei, wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia; Zhang Jiexin, director of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur as well as the chairman and the headmistress of the Baden-Weli Primary School.

Soong Xiaomei presented over 700 books in Chinese, English and Malay to Baden-Weli Primary School to enrich the school's library collection, to foster reading habits and to promote the reading culture among the students at an early age.

Chen Xiujin, chairman of the school, expressed at the ceremony that Chinese culture represents the dignity and identity of the Chinese people, and children of Chinese people must take up the responsibility of passing on our culture.

Wu Xiaolan, headmistress of the school, said that fundamental to the development of education is the promotion and inheritance of traditional culture. Promoting the essence of traditional Chinese culture in school can further improve the moral education system of the school, cultivate the noble virtues of patriotism and love of life among students at an early age, and establish a correct outlook on life, morality and values.

Zhang Jiexin introduced that this event was the first time that the Chinese Cultural Centre went outside Kuala Lumpur to organize a physical cultural event after the COVID-19 epidemic. It was also the first time that the centre had actually gone to a Chinese primary school in the past two years since its establishment. The centre also hopes to take this as a starting point and hopes that in the near future it will be able to go to all parts of the country, opening a window to Chinese culture for compatriots of all ethnic groups in Malaysia.

This program was established to inspire and promote children's recognition and acceptance of their national culture. The program will continue to reach out to all parts of Malaysia and all ethnic groups in the hope of enhancing understanding of each other's cultures, promoting mutual understanding between the two peoples and allowing Chinese culture to take root and be passed on throughout Malaysia.
