Guangxi Overseas Chinese School celebrates 60th anniversary
Guangxi Overseas Chinese School celebrated its 60th anniversary on Dec 19. The school, one of five institutions specializing in Chinese language education, has trained more than 5,200 overseas Chinese youngsters from over 30 countries and regions and over 1,600 overseas Chinese teachers since its establishment.
Guangxi Overseas Chinese School, founded in 1960 by the former Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the supervision of Premier Zhou Enlai, aims to help overseas Chinese students from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and other countries to learn Chinese culture.
Taking advantage of its geographical relationship and overseas compatriots, the school has established long-term cooperative relations with 78 educational institutions, Chinese associations and schools in six ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia. Through a series of activities such as China Roots Seeking Trip and Chinese Culture Experience Camp, more than 4,700 overseas Chinese youths were organized to conduct cultural exchanges in Guangxi, thus promoting exchange and cooperation between China and other countries to a new stage of co-construction and sharing.
Zhang Qiwen, secretary of the Party committee of the school, said the school was the first to offer high school education for foreign students, and to recruit senior high school students in an organized way, opening a channel for foreign students to be admitted to Chinese colleges and universities after graduation from high school. As the main base for Guangxi to carry out Chinese language education overseas, especially in ASEAN countries, it has helped hundreds of overseas students enter Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University, Huaqiao University and other well-known universities in China for further study.
