CSCLF Champion Athlete Fund Story Sharing Event held in Tibet

Altogether 500 university and high school students in Tibet as well as teenagers from all social circles gathered in Lhasa Hotel on July 19, 2016, for a special speech. The title of the speech is "Struggling Youth is the Most Beautiful – Champions' Story Sharing Event of CSCLF Champion Athlete Fund".

The story sharing event is held in Lhasa.

The event was hosted by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and CCTV Sports and Entertainment Co., Ltd, and undertaken by Tibet Development Foundation, Tibet Autonomous Region Committee of the Communist Youth League and Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region.

Champion athletes attending the event including Gao Min, Zheng Haixia, Ye Qiaobo, Olympic Ping Pong champion Liu Wei, Paralympic champion Sun Changting and famous Go player Liu Xiaoguang.

Jing Dunquan, Vice Chairman of CSCLF, delivered a speech on behalf of the Champion Athlete Fund delegation before the event. He said since the founding of CSCLF, the foundation had always been paying attention to the western region, especially the healthy development of women and children in Tibet. This year is the year of nationwide social organization assisting Tibet. Under the invitation by Tibet Development Foundation, the CSCLF Champion Athlete Fund delegation came to Lhasa. Through this event, they could bring the sportsmanship and encouraging stories to teenager friends, helping them pass the period that needs the most help and instruction, and contributing to the teenagers' development into useful talents to the society and practitioners to realize the Chinese Dream of the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.

Later, four champions delivered keynote speeches, sharing their stories and experiences with teenagers. Liu Wei shared her story of how she became an Olympic champion, and her story of learning and becoming an associate professor of Peking University after retirement. Gao Min said she realized the true sportsmanship was not only fighting for the gold medal, but also taking action for realizing the dream through interviewing athletes after retirement. Sun Changting shared his story from being a former professional football player, losing his left leg during a fight in the army, competing and winning a gold medal at the Paralympics to turning into a successful entrepreneur after retirement. At last, Tang Jiuhong, director of CSCLF Fund Department and former world badminton champion made a summary on behalf of champion athletes.

After the speech, teenagers started to pose questions to athletes they like. Questions involved dream and future, studies and life. Some teenagers also asked Zheng Haixia how they could grow tall, and some asked for a group photo with their idols. Champions tried their best to answer these questions, further share their stories, pushing the atmosphere to a climax.

After the event, athletes of the Champion Athlete Fund went to Shigatse, and visited children in local welfare houses and middle schools. They brought sport suits and milk powder worth of 300,000 yuan as gifts to children. They also played games, gave hugs and posed for group photos with children in schools.
