Visiting program on the translation of contemporary Chinese works opens

The opening ceremony of the Visiting program on the translation of contemporary Chinese works.

Visiting program on the translation of contemporary Chinese works, co-hosted by the China's Ministry of Culture, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and China Writers Association, opened in Beijing on Sept 11. The young sinologists participating the program called on the establishment of a normal mechanism of translation exchanges to strengthen the communication and integration of literary works from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Coming from different countries such as the US, Russia, Germany, Canada and Japan, nineteen young sinologists who excelled in translation were invited to the program, in the fields of Chinese literature, history, philosophy, arts, language, politics, modern society and international relations, etc. Five translators recommended by China Writers Association were also invited to work together.

Zhang Aiping, director of Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, delivered a speech.

Zhang Aiping, director of Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, said that the visiting program was aimed to set up a platform, providing support for translation work, expanding the overseas markets for Chinese literary works, and helping more readers to know about China from an objective view. China also specially worked out a plan of financing foreign sinologists and translators, expecting their active participation.
