In the early years of the 20th century, the research of processing techniques of tri-coloured glazed pottery of Tang Dynasty began to be popular in Nanshishan Village, Luoyang.

In 1980, Gao Shuiwang self-built a small kiln, experimented with burning the pottery according to the genuine and scrapped parts from tri-coloured glazed pottery of Tang Dynasty, and often visited museums to watch the styling and features of the antiques. In 1983, Gao Shuiwang studied sculpture at Luoyang Institute of Arts and Crafts.
