The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing will kick off a three-month-long opera season on March 14th, bringing a star-studded lineup for its annual showcase of the world's best opera classics.

This year's opera season will stage the debut of a new version of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, co-produced by NCPA and Russia's Mariinsky Theatre. This marks the first time the Russian theatre has ever co-produced with an Asian counterpart in its 230 years of history. NCPA will also launch the premiere of the film opera Turandot on March 16th, when NCPA, Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Ltd., Turandot’s production team and conducting maestro Valery Gergiev will jointly unveil it. The premiere ceremony is also one of the important parts and highlights of the Opera Festival this year.

Deng Yijiang, vice director of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, said this year's opera numbers have brought together globally renowned artists such as Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, Korean conductor Myung-whun Chung, and Chinese vocalists He Hui and Dai Yuqiang.

The Sixth 'NCPA World Theatre Forum' sponsored by NCPA will also be held on June 25th and 26th. The Forum this year will focus on the creation of opera and discuss it in an in-depth way. It has invited many domestic and foreign performing arts institutions and opera artists to participate in it and continue to establish a fine exchange and cooperation platform for the domestic and foreign opera institutions all over the world.

In addition to the excellent opera performances on the NCPA stage, NCPA will continue to launch over one hundred opera arts exchange and promotional activities inside and outside NCPA and spread the fragrance of the elegant art among the ordinary people.
