2013 is the year to commemorate the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. And the National Center for the Performing Arts has invited Placido Domingo, to stage Verdi’s "Nabucco" in Beijing.(CNTV)
He stars as Nebuchadnezzar, the biblical Babylonion king torn between love and ambition. The other main characters, including the king’s two daughters and the Jewish high priest, are all played by top Chinese artists. The emotional and penetrating sound rings through the opera house, drawing every listener into the mood. And the majestic and solemn stage effects make the characters’ desire and agony even more believable.
The audience is truly enchanted.
By enabling audiences to appreciate Chinese opera artists along with Domingo’s opera debut here, the NCPA production is a prime example of a successful cross-cultural cooporation.
Liang Li is the bass for Zaccaria, and has been playing in other Nabucco productions around the world. Now is his first time playing the role in his home country, and he enjoys working with the team very much.
