Founded by Pope Julius II in the 6th century, the Vatican Museums are located within the city's boundaries. The museums are most famous for Sistine Chapel, residence of the Pope in the Vatican City as well as its ceiling. The chapel’s ceiling was painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, which was considered to be the artist’s greatest achievements in painting.
