Silk Road International Cultural Forum to boost exchanges

The first Silk Road International Cultural Forum will convene from Dec 8 to 10 in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital city, cultural authorities from China and Kazakhstan announced on Nov 21.

“Equality, openness and win-win benefits, these concepts are the principles of the Silk Road International Cultural Forum. It aims to provide exchange and cooperative opportunities for scholars, experts, artists, entrepreneurs and officials from different countries, and also enhances cultural cooperation between China and foreign countries,” said Gu Changjiang, director-general of the China Ethnic Foundation, which is one of the forum’s Chinese organizers.

According to Gu, more than 150 delegates from different sectors, including politicians, cultural institution managers and scholars from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will attend the forum to discuss the inheritance and development of culture along the Silk Road in the 21st century.

The attendees will propose multilateral cooperation projects, building a long-term cooperation mechanism. The topics to be discussed include the innovation of traditional culture and art, the inheritance and development of folk art and the spread of the cultural heritage along the Silk Road.
