The Sixth Malaysia Seagull Chinese Language Literature Awards organized by the association of Malaysian Chinese authors awarded the winners in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
A total of 88 writers and 230 pieces of literature works were shortlisted for the awards.
Zhou Ruotao, Weng Wanjun, Wu Xinlin won the prizes of poetry, prose and fiction respectively. The award of literary criticism was shared by Dai Xiaoshan, Liu Shihui and Li Jinghui.
The poetry prize winner Zhou Ruotao said, after decades of development, the Chinese language literature in Malaysia has formed its own style and characteristics. Zhou hoped that the Malaysian Chinese writers, especially young writers, could have more exchanges with writers from China to “absorb nutrients from the mother culture”, so as to further promote the development of Chinese language literature in Malaysia.
Malaysia Seagull Chinese Literature Awards was founded in 2008, aimed to "revitalizing the Chinese language literature in Malaysia, cultivating the wisdom of youth."
Sponsored by Malaysia Seagull Group, it has become the most widely participated Chinese language literature event for young writers.
