Minister of Culture Cai Wu at Fantawild Holding Inc in Shenzhen in September.

To have a clear picture of Guangdong’s international culture exchanges and further promote the Chinese culture to “go abroad”, Minister of Culture Cai Wu led a research team to inspect Guangdong’s work on Sept 4 and Sept. 8 respectively. He said China’s cultural soft power can be boosted by promoting cultural exchanges and trade. Only by doing so can we achieve the dream of national rejuvenation and “two centennial goals” addressed by Present Xi Jinping.

Cai investigated Tencent, Fantawild Holding Inc and Shenzhen ESun Display Co. Ltd and heard reports about their work on cultural exchanges. According to the report, Tencent is committed to seeking world-wide businesses and cooperation with foreign companies. Thanks to their merger and acquisition and input in many countries, they have changed from export-based cultural trade to capital exports. Their Wechat business has entered the market in America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Fantawild makes more effort to promote its cultural products abroad, such as the animated cartoon Boonie Bears, 4D film and theme parks.

The key to achieving economic transition is to vigorously develop the cultural and creative industry. Growing companies integrate culture, technology and internet to expand their business, which serve as the foundation for international culture exchanges.

The research team focused the investigation on the Hengqin area, Changlong International Circus City and the local foreign service trade. Hengqin makes efforts to boost its service trade and attracts many cultural businesses. As one of the most important cultural events, Changlong International Circus City is a circus festival of significant benefit to locals that strengthens cultural exchanges.

During the investigation, Cai recognized the work of Guangdong in cultural exchanges and trade. However, he said that there is a long way to go before we reach a higher level of cultural exchanges and opening-up. To promote the goal of “go abroad”, we need to deepen the reform of the cultural system, strengthen our capacity for coordination and integration, and encourage all social sectors to join in the promotion of cultural exchanges. We expect to see more external cultural products pop up and further cultural exchange. Driven by the two momentums of exchanges and trade, Chinese culture will move forward on the way to a brighter future.

Guangdong provincial committee and Shenzhen municipal committee Wang Rong, Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin, Zhuhai municipal committee member Li Jia and Zhuhai Mayor He Ningka and officers in charge of cultural department attended the research activities.
