Qin Qiong
Styled Shubao, Qin Qiong (AD 571-638) was born in Licheng County of Qizhou (Now Jinan City of Shandong Province). He was listed as one of the state founders and the 24 heroes of the Tang Dynasty in Lingyan Pavilion. Qin Qiong and Yuchi Gong are divinized as traditional Door Gods. Qin Qiong was renowned as courageous and sturdy. Initially he served in the army of the Sui Dynasty. Later, led by Zhang Xutuo, he crusaded against Li Mi and was defeated. Then he surrendered to Li Mi who appointed him to an important position, namely, Zhangnei Biaoji (General of Flying Cavalry). After Li Mi was defeated, he surrendered to Wang Shichong. In AD 619, Qin surrendered to Tang armies for disapproving of how Wang Shichong conducted himself. Qin Qiong was then appointed as one of the members of Li Shimin, King of Qin. Qin Qiong was engaged in every battle Li Shimin plunged into, and he was always the vanguard. More often than not, he managed to decapitate the enemy generals. In AD 626, he participated in the Palace Coup of Xuanwumen, after which Li Shimin conferred on him the title of Zuowuwei General (commanding the Left Camp of the Palace Guards).
In his later years, he was afflicted with diseases as a consequence of the innumerable injuries caused in the earlier battles. After passing away in AD 638, he was buried in Zhao Tomb. In AD 639, the emperor conferred on Qin Qiong the posthumous title of Huguogong (similar to Lord Protector).
