In olden times, the main season for Tan´s opera troupe was from the tenth month of the lunar calendar to the first month of the following year. Some families whose wish for fortune or children had been realized would invite the opera troupe to perform at their homes and treat them lavishly. One performance usually took three to four days. And on the 24th day of the sixth month, the birthday of Erlang, a god in Chinese folk tales, would be celebrated with a Yang opera performance lastingthree days. Then, during the "cultural revolution"(1966-76),Yang opera performances were suspended for more than 10 years until the 1980s.
