Some 2,000 people joined a ceremony on September 19 in Monterey Park commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The ceremony drew officials of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu and representatives from local governments, as well as residents from the Chinese community.
National flags of China and the United States were hoisted at the ceremony, during which Chinese Consul General Zhang Yun and Judy Chu delivered speeches to mark the occasion.
The ceremony featured colorful performances by Chinese artists. It was the biggest event in recent years to commemorate the anniversary, organizers said.
Another performance is scheduled for Sunday in a nearby city.
