Overseas Chinese in Canada to hold activities to celebrate the 60th birthday of new China

Chinese organizations inToronto will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with enthusiasm and a diverse range of activities, said Wu Zuosheng, the leader of overseas Chinese inTorontoon September 2.

An organizing committee co-sponsored by Chinese organizations in most areas held a press conference today to release the activity schedule for Oct 1.

It is said that such kinds of celebrations have been running without interruption since 1954 when the Chinese in Toronto held an activity to celebrate National Day for the first time.

Today local Chinese organizations have spent more effort to prepare for this 60th anniversary.

Besides the traditional National Day Banquet, this year's outdoor celebration includes a flag-raising ceremony and a float parade.

Till now, more than 50 organizations will be participating in the parade with more than 30 prepared floats.

Chen Bingding, Chairman of CTCCO, said this year's celebration has the support of the local government with many officials such as the governor of Ontario joining the festivities.
