  PLA Fine Arts Show

Fine arts works by artists in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) are being put on show to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Oct. 1.

An exhibition of nearly 300 fine arts works was opened Monday, under the co-organization of the PLA General Political Department, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Chinese Artists Association.

The exhibition is being held at the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, in west Beijing.

The works cover a wide range of topics from the military forces to social lives, reflecting the PLA's development in the past six decades. Exhibits include traditional Chinese paintings, oil paintings, sculptures and watercolor paintings.

Xu Caihou, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the opening ceremony and visited the exhibition.

China will hold a grand gathering at the Tian'anmen Square on Oct. 1 to commemorate the 60th anniversary, to be followed by a military parade and mass pageant. Two rounds of rehearsals have been held so far, the latest one on Sunday night.

Besides the Tian'anmen celebrations, various other events have been organized to pay tribute to the anniversary, including exhibitions and galas.
