Law's biography

Dennis Law retired from a career as a renowned surgeon in Denver, Colorado in 2001. He started his entertainment career with the film Warriors of Virtue. In China he also produced a prizewinning CCTV children's film, Xiwa, as well as the acclaimed TV series, April Rhapsody.

In 2002 Law acquired The Centre of Vancouver for Performing Arts, which he used to launch a new genre of musical theater known as action-musicals.

Since then, nine action-musicals have been performed nearly 1,000 times in North America and China. In 2005, Law was nominated for a Toronto Dora Award for Best Direction of a Musical for the show Heartbeat.

The three shows that entered into competition for the Dora Awards gathered seven nominations, while Tang Concubines won Dora Awards for best costume design and best choreography in 2007 and Monkey King won best choreography in 2010.

During the summer of 2008 the company was part of the 37 performances held as an action musical festival to celebrate the Beijing Olympic Games.

The world premiere of the first Chinese rock musical Monkey King was history making for Chinese musical theater both in Beijing and worldwide.

Law set up a foundation to honor artists in Beijing who make great contributions in the theatrical sector with the annual Denny Award.
